Our mission is bridging the gap between rural

and urban communities to help preserve our

western heritage

non-profit subsidiary of Ranchlands, Ranchlands Learning and Research Center (RLRC) focuses on providing education programs for children in grades K-12, college students, and adults. Welcoming over 3,000 people annually to the Chico Basin Ranch, its mission is bridging the gap between rural and urban communities to help preserve our western heritage and to increase awareness of the important role ranching and grazing play in the management of a healthy ecosystem. RLRC also provides science-based monitoring for the ecosystems under Ranchlands’ management, such as the bird banding stations on the Chico Basin Ranch.

A variety of workshops are held in subjects such as grazing and financial planning, range monitoring, ranch roping and horsemanship, and keying grasses. Programs have been developed for school children that focus on the prairie ecosystem, modern day ranching, regional natural history and pioneer life on the prairie.

Programs are funded primarily by Ranchlands, with assistance provided by fundraiser events and outside grants.
