Hospitality

Zapata Ranch is the guest arm of Medano Zapata Ranch. Ranchlands has managed this portion of the ranch since 2007. It features a 17 bedroom lodge and a conference center that provide the base of operations for programs that bring guests onto the ranch to learn about ranching, conservation and nature. Guests come from around the world to participate in this working ranch vacation that also includes access to programs such as guided fishing, nature hikes, workshops, and artists gatherings. In addition, the Ranchlands team on-site provides support for The Nature Conservancy’s philanthropic team, providing hospitality services, meals, opportunities to observe and participate in ranch work, and conducting tours showcasing the restoration work being accomplished on the ranch.

he 103,000 acre Medano Zapata Ranch is owned by The Nature Conservancy and Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is The Nature Conservancy’s crown jewel property. Ranchlands has managed this ranch since 2004 in a one of a kind partnership with The Nature Conservancy.

The ranch is home to two bison herds: one is run for purposes of species conservation in a 50,000 acre pasture, and the other is managed under an intensive grazing program, similar to how we graze our cattle, on a separate section of the ranch.

Ranchlands works closely with government agencies and other ranchers with this property in establishing grazing and management protocols in a 450,000 square mile landscape that includes the Great Sand Dunes National Park and a US Fish And Wildlife Service managed property that adjoins the Medano Zapata Ranch.
